I'm 100% ok with admitting that my whole secret to creative success has always been community. Ever since I stepped away from the SSFG that community connection has faded, and I miss it incredibly. I've been workshopping ideas for a new community platform for a few years now, and I was honestly always afraid that it would die in the shadow of the "failure" of the SSFG. At this point, I've gotta...

Turns out we're all human. Until you can appreciate your own humanity the way you would appreciate a tree or a flower, you're trapped. And your own humanity involves negative and positive emotions, desires, fears, loneliness, self pity, all that stuff. Once you can enjoy them they lose their power over you. - Ram Dass After a few sporadic years it feels like I need to do some catching up. No ag...

Unfortunately, many business communication agencies have gotten away for too long with half-baked communication that is as lazy as it is boring. If you're a filmmaker and overwhelmed at the cost of gear, or hate seeing a huge chunk of your income go to loan payments - you might want to seriously consider co-ownership. The math is worth checking out - your rate of return increases like crazy, your loan risk decreases like crazy, and you're also able to buffer each others slow seasons without any real downside. Now the one obvious thing I...

    Alot of people are happy eith the video. I dont see how to compare which is which. There random shots. No A or B. I can take a guess, but its a bit disorganized and it disappoints, because you could have used your time constructing better shots to compare.

    So I've used both an actual easy rig. And I own a flow line from pro. Rig, which would be considered one of those knock off brands and honestly. The easy rig is a lot more comfortable. However, the flow line still gets the job done. And it does so for a fourth of the price. And it is built like a tank. The longevity wise you're probably gonna get 2 years out of it. Versus an easy rig, which I know. Some people who have been running the same easy rig for 5 years. So if you're broke right now, but you're using a heavy a** Rig that you need to get some support for right now. But you don't want a stomach, you know? Renting an easy rig for 70 or $80 a day. Every time you have to shoot, it's perfectly reasonable for you to go for something like the flow line. Or something else? However, at the end of the day, if you have to choose between the two and budget is no option, then of course pick the easy rig

    Do you recommend starting off as a sole proprietor with a DBA or starting off with a LLC right away?

    • @ebourcier
      @ebourcier 5 месяцев назад

      I'd say it depends how serious you are about the business. If you're gonna do more than $50k within a year or two you're probably better off going the LLC route. If you're dabbling as a side-hustle and testing the waters you don't need to go down that route. I personally stayed sole prop for too long because I didn't understand the LLC side, and ended up paying for it on the taxes etc.

    Great thoughts. Social media is a grind its tough to find people to do influencer type content so my ideas are usually just me solo and I find myself not enjoying it as much as my bigger client based music videos where I get alot of people and coordination going through pre and post production. I've always said the memories on set are also something I provide as value but when I think about its what I enjoy most being on set and problem solving the frames and shots. The collaborative effort is more fulfilling than social media Grinding.

    Community has always been hard to find for me. I came from a generally speaking non creative town where there wasn't much of a community anyway, kind of learned on my own and through RUclips Uni, moved to music city during the pandemic, then made a career shift into the outdoor space, and so some of that is on me and life decisions. I'm still looking for my people. Looking forward to hearing your ideas and seeing what happens man.

    The frame looks really cool. Just wanted to chime in because I share a similar sentiment. I've been in the video production business for 12 years, and the past few years have been quite the rollercoaster. Social media landscape keeps changing every 6 months, and the "creative" market is getting more saturated by the day. It's a relentless grind, and as time goes by, the energy levels seem to dip. I'm definitely yearning for something fresh. Your video was spot-on, and it's reassuring to know there are others like us, seeking to embark on new ventures. Thanks for the video.

    Evan, so much respect to you for sharing your story and journey and the courage it took to film this. I worked creative and tech for 5 years for churches and it was one of the most toxic and debilitating experiences. Your comment about all the interactions stacking up is truth, in a lot of ways. It's also really hard to balance pursuing a dream and protecting yourself and your family. Keep speaking truth. You don't owe anyone anything - hope this is a turning point for you, man. I just want to share that alot of my emotional issues have gotten much more subdued after consuming Omega 3 supplements. After taking them I feel more human, less quick to anger, less anxious, and more emotionally solid. I think modern diets strip us from the amount that we should be consuming. Nordic naturals 2x or Barleens (liquid) flavored are great. I'd explore using it and see if you notice any emotional regulation from it. Do like 4grams a day to start. It's expensive, but so worth it. I believe that it gives you an emotional superpower to handle the world.
